The University of Cambodia’s 127 students and teachers have visited Siem Reap province for two days from November 7th-9th under the theme of “Reaching the Community: Students and Culture”. This is the study tour conducted by The University of Cambodia Students Senate under the support of The University of Cambodia (UC) and sponsored by several private companies.
The purposes of this field trip is to organize an outside classroom school that student can learn and experience the real knowledge and provide the golden opportunity for students to learn how to live together, work together, and how to guide everyone to reach the goals. It also aims to instruct UC students by organizing grand activities through which knowledge of the leadership and management would be initiated and carried out.
During the three-day trip in Siem Reap, all students visited many places, namely Angkor Wat Temple, Banteay Srey Temple, Cultural Villages and the Angkor National Museum to find out the Khmer cultures inscribed in the valuable stones and through the performances of various art and take time to enjoy capturing the beautiful scenery for their good memory. Moreover, UC students conducted the lectures to the grand 12 students at the 10 January High School to share knowledge and experiences to them. These lectures will pack back the knowledge and experience from the project to prepare for their future study and life, both for UC students and high school students. Most importantly, they will learn how to serve the needs of community, society and serve each other among the team by coming to directly involve in society.
Mr. Chhin Tyheng, Vice President of the UC Student Senate, said that he had planned this project two months in advance with their members. “We had set many meetings to develop the project to run smoothly. Now we get success,” he added. “We prepared three topics for presentation at the high school there such
as the importance of English, Women Studying at University and Choosing major at university. The three topics would be helpful and useful for them who are
ready to finish high school soon.”
He felt very happy but a little bit exhausted because this field trip is helpful and meaningful. All students learn to work together and share the happy time together; especially they can learn more about the Khmer cultures.
A 21-year-old student, Diep Sokseryors, majoring on International Relation, who participated in the field trip, said that he feel very excited because this is the first time for him to attend the UC field trip. “It is quite interesting and looks happy. It is good because we can learn from another and gain knowledge. I learn a lot from my friends such as the way they communicate and make new friends. I hoped that I will join such a good opportunity when it comes again,” he added.
Sonn Chanpity, majoring finance and banking, said that she felt very enjoyable. The field trip is good that let her know more about culture and the meaning of the statues she had never known before. Every year, UC always conducted the field trip to provinces and share or educate the community or high school students about advantages of any knowledge in the society. Additionally, it is the time for students to relax after hard working in school. This is the third time that UC Student Senate organized such as a field trip and it was the 8th project for this year before they finish their mandate. (SEAW)
